JOPLIN, MO.--- Bagels at one Joplin restaurant will be transformed in October for a good cause. A ribbon cutting was held at Panera Bread in Joplin to kickoff the "Pink Ribbon Bagel" campaign. Over the last six years, the campaign has raised more than $28,000 and sold more than 80,000 bagels.
For every bagel sold in October, 25 cents will be donated to the Hope 4 You Breast Cancer Foundation. Last year, the group was able to raise $12,000. This year, it was divided between Freeman Health System, Mercy Hospital and Angels Among Us. The money will help breast cancer patients during their treatments. Organizers say someday there will be a cure.
"I'd like to do away with cancer until we find a cure. i would just like everybody to be a survivor so this is so passionate to me to help these people. When I had cancer you didn't ever say the word breast cancer much less get help," said Sharon Clark, President Hope 4 You Breast Cancer Foundation.
This years campaign chairmen is Doris Carlin, who is a breast cancer survivor. Her husband, Gary Bandy, was on hand to show his support.
