JOPLIN, MO.--- Local artists and restaurants come together to help alleviate hunger. Phoenix Fired Art is holding its 2nd Annual Empty Bowls fundraiser today. Guests got to choose a bowl made by more than 30 potters and filled it with their choice of soup made by 17 area restaurants. All proceeds raised from the event will be split evenly between Watered Gardens, the Salvation Army, and Crosslines. The director says they chose to do the event a week before Thanksgiving.
"The concept is that bowl that has that empty bowl sticker on it that they have in the cabinet or on the Thanksgiving table, reminds them that somewhere someone has an empty bowl and they helped fill it," said Heather Grills, Owner/Executive Director of Phoenix Fired Art.
Last year the event raised about $12,000. The "Empty Bowls" fundraiser continues again from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m.
