Parsons Begins Smoke Testing Sewer Lines

Crews begin smoke testing sewer lines to detect defective plumbing throughout Parsons.
PARSONS, KS.--- Crews begin smoke testing sewer lines to detect defective plumbing throughout Parsons. Engineers from Trekk Design Group are going block by block blowing smoke into man holes.

Smoke rises wherever there is a sewer line issue including cracked lines or illegal pipe connections. Crews are mapping every location where smoke arises and then will turn the results into the city. City workers will then address the problems after the testing is complete.

"There's a problem with storm water getting into the sanitary sewer lines which causes a lot of problem at the treatment plant and out in the system with sanitary over flows and bypasses," said Brandon Freeman, Project Manager.

Crews will smoke test around 10 blocks daily until the end of August.
