GALENA, KS.--- Galena residents are not only being asked to slow down, but they're being forced to stop. The city has recently built a stoplight at the intersection of Route 66 and Four States Drive. It's located in front of the Ortho-Four States Health Center. Galena Mayor Dale Oglesby says the light was put there to handle the increase in traffic the new health center has produced. He knows drivers don't want to slow down, but says it's a necessary change.
"This is actually a safety feature that has been here to slow traffic down on Highway 66," said Dale Oglesby, Galena Mayor.
There's also a new strip mall being constructed next door to the health center. Once completed, city officials are expecting an increase in traffic from those new businesses as well.
