JOPLIN, MO -- Starting tomorrow, a city in the four states will have more officials looking out for resident safety.

The Joplin Police Department is adding new officers to their team. After completing a 600 hour state-mandated post academy, five newly hired officers will be sworn in tomorrow. They recently graduated from police academy, and a couple officers actually have previous experience in law enforcement.

Now that they're hired, they'll begin an in-house academy which will be 10 weeks long. After completing those 10 weeks, they'll do 14 weeks of training out in the field.
