JOPLIN, MO.--- Crews are finishing up construction at the new Children's Haven in Joplin.
"The kitchen, we've got cabinets in it now, we're getting flooring down. So, things are coming together," said Liz Erickson, Children's Haven Development Coordinator.
The new house will be located off Picher Avenue, just behind the current house.
"It's pretty exciting that we are coming to the end of this. We've watched it from the beginning and the building has grown. It's really a home environment," said Stephanie Theis, Executive Director.
The new building will allow the center to serve up to 24 kids instead of 12, like they do now.
"We're getting calls everyday for children we just don't have room for. Providing crisis care and safety for these kids while parents are dealing with something stressful is important in this community," said Theis.
Children's Haven leaders say the building will provide a nurturing environment for kids.
"One of the things I'm excited about is our safer and generator that makes sure kids are safe when there is inclement weather or emergencies going on," said Erickson.
The new facility is expected to be complete by the end of the year.
"It's a combination of a lot of work and a lot of people coming together, really seeing what was needed in our community and making it a reality," said Erickson.
Help is still needed to complete the build and furnish the home. From now until mid-November, donations will be matched by a Challenge Grant, doubling the impact of the donations. For more information on how you can help, click here.
