NEOSHO, MO.--- The Neosho Area Business and Industrial Foundation held a meeting today to discuss the overview of a foreign trade zone project. The plan is to produce a magnet site foreign trade zone in Neosho's Industrial Park. The foundation says it's an economic development tool to let businesses come in and create jobs. It will allow Neosho businesses to trade with foreign companies without having to deal with custom issues. That will help with overseas competition. The consultant for this new plan says it could change the landscape of Neosho's region.
"With industrial development and new jobs coming in, the scope magnitude of what we're doing will just trickle down to what we believe commercial retail and residential development," said Howard Birdsong, Consultant.
The City of Neosho must apply to be designated as a foreign trade zone. Birdsong says they plan on having the application completed within the next 30 to 60 days. Once that is complete, they will send it off to Springfield, then to Washington to get approved.
