JOPLIN, MO.--- Missouri Southern athletes will be out trick-or-treating tomorrow for canned goods. This is the fourth year for the "Trick or Treat So Others Can Eat" event. Students will go to different neighborhoods collecting canned food and nonperishable food items. They'll begin early in the afternoon and finish in the evening. All food collected will go to different food pantries in the area.
"I think other people look up to us and when they see us doing good things, that makes them want to do good things too," said Katie Pollite, MSSU Volleyball.
"It's a pretty big deal, just to give back to the community because they come and watch us perform and so we want to help them. A lot of families struggle, so this little event will help a lot of families," Jacob Rowe, MSSU Track and Field.
Last year, the athletes collected about 2,000 pounds of food and hope they surpass that number this year.
