JOPLIN, MO.--- Election day is still more than a month away, but time is running out to register to vote. Missouri Southern students are hoping to help make the process easier, taking part in National Voter Registration Day today. They're hoping to reach as many unregistered students as possible. Last year, the outreach project signed up more than 600 voters. An online registration option allowed them to connect with any home state, with voters signing up to vote as far away as Montana.
"As a younger generation, we're not getting out there, we're not getting involved as much as we see in voter turnout. It's only older people that are voting. So, if we can get younger people involved, I think that's really important," said Keegan Tinney, MSSU Political Science Student.
Volunteers set a goal of registering five new voters each before the end of the day.
