JOPLIN, MO.--- MODOT officials discuss the possibility of making changes to a busy Joplin road. The Missouri Department of Transportation is looking at adding an overpass to go over the railroad tracks that cross over East 32nd Street near Davis Boulevard. Officials say they're simply throwing the idea around right now, nothing is set in stone. They're seeking input from area businesses before they get a formal plan in the works.
"It's just an idea at this point. We don't have any identified funding, but generally this is the way we start projects today. It's very simple, we sit down and talk to those most impacted by the project," said Dan Salsbury, MODOT Asst. District Engineer.
"The traffic that comes through here is a lot of heavy trucks. I think better flow would obviously make it safer, because there's less stop and go and chances of pile-ups and multi-car accidents," said Alicia Knell, Works Off 32nd Street.
MODOT representatives say the project would cost anywhere from $6 to $8 million.
