MISSOURI--- As we first reported last night, longtime Congressman Ike Skelton has passed away. Today, many are remembering his commitment to this country, especially our nation's military. Praised by both President Barack Obama and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, the Democratic lawmaker was also honored by those across the aisle.
Republican Congressman Roy Blunt said "No member of the Congress was more dedicated to America's defense and those who defend us than Ike Skelton."
Closer to home, Joplin Democrat Doug Brooks remembered the politician's integrity and commitment to the job. "Absolutely is a loss. It's a loss for everyone, regardless of your political persuasion. This was a guy who was one of those people who transcended that divide."
Skelton served Missouri's 4th District for 34 years, leaving that post in 2010. He passed away yesterday at a hospital in Virginia.
