JOPLIN, MO.--- Local Girl Scouts are getting some early medical training at a Joplin hospital. The group from St. Peter's Middle School visited the Emergency Department at Freeman West today. The trip included a tour of the facility as well as the basics of bandaging and splinting. Workers say it's a great opportunity to find out how to help before someone gets hurt.
"They're going on a camping trip at the end of the month, and so we've geared some of our first aid questions towards things that may happen while they're camping," said Valerie Russow, Freeman Nurse.
The trip helped the Girl Scouts earn their First Aid Badge.
