GIRARD, KS.--- Cities in the Sunflower State receive funding for road improvements. Kansas Secretary of Transportation Mike King visited Girard this afternoon. He announced which cities will benefit from the Kansas Department of Transportation's Geometric Improvment Program. The state will provide more than $6 million for projects in 11 cities. Girard will receive $750,000, Weir $700,000, El Dorado will get $570,000 and $800,000 will go to Pratt. The funding is for the fiscal year of 2016. Geometric improvement projects help intersections and address road deficiencies.
"We have a team that gets together and looks at safety and drainage issues, and we take care of the worst ones first," said Mike King, Kansas Secretary of Transportation.
Roads selected for funding are part of the state highway system, but are located within city limits.
