PITTSBURG, KS.--- The Kansas Department of Transportation has been tackling the snow since last night. They've had 24 snow plows on Southeast Kansas roads since 8 last night. Highway Maintenance Superintendent Wayne Nelson and his team is responsible for clearing the roads in Cherokee, Crawford, Labette, and Neosho counties. Because of the nature of this storm, they've had to place more salt on the roads in their deicing efforts.
"What the problem is, is that our temperatures are so low. When the temperatures are that low, the material really doesn't do much. The only thing we can count on is the sun to push it, because that's what's helping us the most right now," said Wayne Nelson, Highway Maintenance Superintendent.
Nelson says this storm wasn't the worse, however they take every storm seriously.
