JOPLIN, MO.--- Souls Harbor is helping many families in need of food and clothes this holiday season. Last month, residents in Joplin donated canned items through the Helping Hands Helping Others Food Drive.
"Through the Helping Hands collection of food, they have really filled the pantries. We have had a number of turkeys from several businesses in town be donated, and the turkeys are being distributed now," said Georgie Jones, Founder.
Joplin has been great to Souls Harbor, but they are still in need of a few things such as gloves, socks, and thermal underwear.
"We are a little bit short of the frozen things that we would put into food boxes like meat and things like pounds of hamburger. We put or canned meat in food boxes," said Jones.
"We have a big need for diapers. We have a build up of the small ones but 4's and 5's are always running low," said Jim Loeffer, Front Desk Operator.
While these items may seem small and inexpensive, there's still a great need for them. The number of people with needs is much greater than you may think.
"A daily average may be 20 and there will be some days when we'll have 50. So, it's quite a need in the community," said Loeffer.
You can drop off any of your gently used or new items at their location off Main Street, you will also receive a receipt for a tax write off.
