Joplin Man Charged for Attempting to Set Fire to Planned Parenthood

The U.S. Department of Justice announced Jedediah Stout of Joplin is charged with trying to start a fire on both October 3rd and 4th.
JOPLIN, MO.--- An arrest has been made in the attempted arson of the Joplin Planned Parenthood building. The U.S. Department of Justice announced Jedediah Stout, 29, of Joplin is charged with trying to start a fire on both October 3rd and 4th. Authorities say he's the man in surveillance photos taken at the time of the incidents. A criminal complaint states that officers first came in contact with Stout shortly after the first attempt. He was walking on train tracks a few blocks away and claimed he had been drinking at a local bar.

Investigators found the alibi was false and were able to connect Stout to the purchase of a backpack, camouflage rope and a jacket believed to be connected to the crimes. Stout was seen buying the items on surveillance video from Wal-Mart on 15th Street. The backpack and rope were found at the Planned Parenthood facility the night of the crime. Court paperwork also says a crime lab analysis matched Stout's fingerprint to one found on a bottle at the scene. Stout's initial court appearance is set for October 21st.
