Joplin High School Band Shoe Collection Fundraiser

Students are collecting worn shoes to give to the Salvation Army who will recycle or sell them.
JOPLIN, MO.--- The Joplin High School band wants your old shoes. It's part of a fundraising campaign to raise money for their spring break trip. The band will perform on Main Street at Magic Kingdom in March. Students first need to raise about $1,100 each by February. So, students are collecting worn shoes to give to the Salvation Army who will recycle or sell them. For 3,000 pounds of shoes, the Salvation Army will give the band $2,000.

"This is a good way to shave a little bit of the cost off of the trip because everything made off of the shoes will come off of the initial price of their trip," said Rick Castor, JHS Band Instructor.

The band will be collecting shoes at tonight's football game. You can drop off any shoes at the Band Booster booth inside the south gate at Junge Stadium. If you can't make it tonight, you can drop them off at Memorial Hall.
