JOPLIN, MO.--- The first part of Joplin's Disaster Recovery Plan gets the official green light. The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development has approved the city's plan for more than $8.6 million in Community Development Block Grant funding. Around $7.8 million will go towards the design and construction of sidewalks, curbs, gutters and sewers throughout the city.
More than $300,000 will go towards mental health services for the R-8 School District. That leaves about $400,000 for administrative and planning costs for the projects. City leaders were awarded a total of $113 million in CDBG funds earlier this year to help tornado recovery efforts.
