Joplin Council to Consider Mental Health Funding for Schools

Joplin City Leaders will consider funding mental health services for the school district during tomorrow's council meeting.

JOPLIN --- Council Members originally approved $750,000 for mental health programs throughout the city, including the school district, in August as part of the Community Development Block Grant. School officials have decided they will need roughly $330,000 to hire about 8-employees who will act as case managers and counselors. A school district study estimates one-half to one-third of students and staff will benefit from the services.

City leaders will make their decision at 6 p.m. Monday night at City Hall.
