Joplin City Council Considers Future Funding of Mother Road Marathon

Runners might only have one more chance to participate in the Mother Road Marathon.
JOPLIN, MO -- The future of the event was discussed at the Joplin City Council 2014 budget meeting.

In 2010, more than 15 hundred runners signed up, but the numbers have significantly dropped since then. Only 250 people had signed up for this year's run on the day of city council meeting just two weeks ago. That's why the council discussed pulling funds for the event but decided to give it another chance.

City officials say they'll work on new ways to market the 2014 marathon and will make a decision next year.
