Joplin Attorney Could Face Alleged Misconduct Charges

Authorities are looking into allegations that Daniel Whitworth stole client funds, forged the names of others on checks and used client money for personal expenses.
JOPLIN, MO.--- A Joplin attorney could soon face charges for alleged misconduct. KSN has obtained documents from the U.S. Attorney that the Missouri Highway Patrol and the Criminal Investigations Division of the IRS is investigating Daniel Whitworth. Both departments have turned their findings over to a grand jury. Possible charges could include mail fraud, wire fraud, bank fraud, money laundering, tax fraud and aggravated identity theft.

Specifically, authorities are looking into allegations that Whitworth stole client funds, forged the names of others on checks and used client money for personal expenses. Whitworth has contacted the U.S. Attorney's Office saying he can't afford an attorney and would need a court to appoint one. Whitworth's attorney's license was suspended back in October.
