JOPLIN, MO.--- Its been more than two years since the Joplin tornado and area veterans are still helping those in need. Howard Spiva is with the American Legion Post 13 in Joplin. After the tornado, several tractor trailers from New York and Illinois dropped off essential items including clothing, toiletries and food. They were sent from fellow veterans who wanted to help other veterans in our area. So far, they've helped more than 418 families. The American Legion is still full with donations and they're now offering to help nonverterans with some essentials.
"Continue to hand it out by appointment only. They call me, bring their family and come in here and signed up, get sizes of clothing they need. Our food supply is about gone. It's about gone but we do have quite a lot of clothing," said Howard Spiva, WWII Veteran.
If you were in the tornado zone and need some supplies, you can call 417-483-3099.
