Dr. Kivett's philosophy is to treat areas of concern early before too much damage occurs to the teeth and gums. This will preserve natural tooth structure as well as keeping the dental costs lower for you. A filling is much less costly than a root canal or a crown. If too much damage occurs to the tooth structure and nerve from decay, then a root canal or crown would be the treatment versus a small filling.

The health of your mouth depends on the care you give it. Routine care will ensure continued health.

SOME BASIC THINGS TO KEEP IN MIND:

  1. Avoid foods high in sugar like sodas, carbonated beverages, hard candy, and mints. Also avoid sticky foods such as gummy bears, raisins, etc. Be sure to brush as soon as possible after consuming these kinds of foods.
  2. Bleeding is NOT normal. Bring any areas of concern to our attention.
  3. Bacteria can begin to do damage in 24 hours. Daily care is a must.

We have discussed specific ways for you to care for your teeth and gums. Our recommendation for the best result is a daily routine of the following procedures:

  1. Use an electric toothbrush at least twice daily. We recommend the Oral B-either the Professional Care Smart Series 5000 or the Vitality brush. Both will remove much more plaque than a manual toothbrush.
  2. Floss at least 1 time per day.
  3. Use Caries Free mouthwash morning and night. This is proven to stop the decay process. We have both children and adult formulas.
  4. If recommended by Dr. Kivett, wear the occlusal guard to prevent further wear (damage) to the teeth.
  5. If malocclusion is a factor, causing you to harbor food and damaging bacteria, seek Invisiline treatment in our office.

Dr. Kivett and his team are committed to helping you stay healthy. We will be happy to answer any questions you may have about your dental health. We look forward to seeing your happy, healthy smile at your next dental visit!
