JASPER, MO.--- Jasper County commissioners move forward to make a railroad crossing safer in Jasper. Today, the commission approved a bid from Emory Sapp for construction of the crossing where Main Street and the tracks intersect. Commissioners are working with MODOT and the Missouri Northern Arkansas Railroad on the project, which will include straightening the tracks and adding crossing signals. Commissioner Jim Honey says there is a lot of traffic near the crossing and there was a death on the tracks.
"It's just exciting to finally get it done, and it'll be good for the folks in Jasper and folks that travel that road," said Commissioner Jim Honey, Jasper County.
Commissioner Honey expects the project will start in January, and it should be complete in early summer.
