Increase in Number of Child Abuse Cases in Oklahoma

Around 11,400 children in the state were victims of physical or emotional abuse in 2013.
OKLAHOMA-- For the third straight year, the number of child abuse and neglect cases increase in Oklahoma.

That's according to new data released by the Oklahoma Department of Human Services.

Around 11,400 children in the state were victims of physical or emotional abuse in 2013.

That's up by 58-percent from 2010.

And 11,000 Oklahoma children are currently in foster care- up by 2-000 from last year.

The Department of Humans services is working with a Seattle-based company to determine the exact causes of this drastic increase.

The goal is to see if there are any issues the department can control to in turn help lower the number of mistreated children in the state.
