(Carthage, MO) -- A historic motel on Route 66 is no longer in danger of being torn down.

Boots Motel in Carthage will re-open its doors May 8th.

The 1940's motel was neglected for many years.

Two sisters, Deborah Harvey and Pricilla Bledsaw are working with Ron Hart, a member of the Route 66 community, to bring it back to it's original glory.

"It's all original both inside and out and it makes it priceless for Route 66 and the people who travel it," property manager Ron Hart says.

The rooms will cost $2.50 a night for their grand opening.

After that they will be $66 a night.

"Hopefully we'll have people come in and enjoy the stay in some of these old rooms," Route 66 community member Barbara Hart says.

The hotel is currently booking rooms for this summer.
