Gridiron Great Joe Wimmer, PSU Reaping Benefits From Win, Cassel News + More

Our second gridiron great scored both offensive and defensive touchdowns Friday night, Pitt State seeing both individual and team recognition for their season opening win, and more.
In Pittsburg High's 42-18 defeat of Coffeyville Friday night, quarterback Joe Wimmer rushed 12 times for 160 yards and 2 touchdowns. He also returned a fumble 99 yards for a score. He's our Gridiron Great.

At the next level in Pittsburg, junior defensive end Gus Toca was named the MIAA Defensive Player of the Week after six tackles (2.5 for loss), two sacks and a forced fumble last Thursday night. Sophomore John Brown was the Special Teams Player of the Week after an 84 yd punt return. The team is now ranked 25th in the country after beating Missouri Western 34-7.

Elsewhere, Matt Cassel says despite his cracked rib, he'll be "ready to roll" Sunday against the Bills.

Sad news: Oklahoma native and one-time Sooner great Lee Roy Selmon passed away Sunday.
