CHEROKEE COUNTY, KS.--- A magazine that features all Cherokee County has to offer is making the rounds in Southeast Kansas. The Galena Sentinel Times has printed 5,000 copies of its 'Live Cherokee County' magazine. The magazine is unique because it's the first of its kind to feature tourist attractions just for Cherokee County. The managing editor says she wanted her community to have something to promote itself. Over the last two months, she and her team cultivated advertisers, articles, and photographs of the major attractions the county has to offer.
"We have a lot to offer, but we are the second poorest county in the State of Kansas, and people don't realize that Cherokee County has a lot to offer," said Machelle Smith, Managing Editor.
The magazine has been out since August. The newspaper is already working on next year's feature.
