Freeman Health System will host an event to honor the memory of those who lost their lives in the storm.

The public is invited to attend the 'Morning Has Broken event' at 7:30 AM on May 22nd.

Governor Jay Nixon is scheduled to pay tribute to the number of caregivers and volunteers who sacrificed their time to help during and after the tornado.

"We feel that Joplin is recovering and is being restored," Freeman Health System CEO and President Paula Baker says. "So there is a new hope and a new optimist throughout our community and we want to celebrate that hope."

Freeman officials treated more than 500 in the first hours after the disaster.

Parking and shuttle services are available for the event.

The ceremony will be at the Hilltop Parking Lot at 1102 West 32nd Street.

A rendering of a May 22nd memorial will also be unveiled at the event.
