BAXTER SPRINGS, KS.--- A Baxter Springs children's camp provides hundreds of kids with back to school necessities. Five Mile Camp held their 4th Annual Back to School Fair this morning at the Route 66 Soda Fountain in Baxter Springs. The line to go inside stretched several blocks down military avenue. 500 Cherokee County students got free school supplies, everything from crayons to backpacks. A local salon offered free hair cuts and the Southeast Kansas Community Clinic offered free health and dental checkups.
"We want to see successful adults after theses children are grown up, and we want to see them give back to this community," said Susan Gantt, Five Miles Camp Coordinator.
The Back to School Fair is funded by the camp's trust fund and some private donations.
