Wyandotte Nation Community Center Groundbreaking

Wyandotte residents will soon have a safe place to go when severe weather strikes.
WYANDOTTE, OK.--- Wyandotte residents will soon have a safe place to go when severe weather strikes. This morning the Wyandotte Nation broke ground on a $1.2 million community center.

It includes a storm shelter that will hold up to 120 people. The community center will sit in the middle of the tribe housing development off Highway 60. The facility will also include a senior center, play room and kitchen.

"We set out several years ago with the vision of building a community, an active, strong thriving community of Wyandottes here, and this is just another piece of the puzzle," said Billy Friend, Wyandotte Nation Chief.

The Wyandotte Nation Community Center is expected to be complete by early spring.
