PITTSBURG, KS.--- The hospital's goal is to be a high reliable organization. That means they'll use certain tools to help achieve their safety, quality, and efficiency goals. Hospital leaders say patient safety is always the main focus. So nurses, doctors, and other staff have developed a system to help remind everyone to wash up.
"So you just tape your badge, if you see someone. That's not just as a reminder, you know, to not call them out on it, but they can subtly tape their badge and then it reminds them to wash their hands before they enter a patient room or touch a patient," said Amy Renn, Via Christi Medical Unit Director.
Currently, there are 145 preventable hospital acquired infections per one thousand patient days nationwide.
