GIRARD, KS.--- The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7479 Chapter in Girard held a meeting tonight on whether to end their membership in Girard and join another membership in Parsons. If VFW Post 7479 dissolves, they may take the Huey Helicopter with them. We showed up to the VFW's meeting tonight to ask them if they were going to leave Girard and what the future might hold for the helicopter, but members decided to make no comment. Girard residents say the helicopter is a symbol for the community.
"it's representative of people who have committed their life to serving our country and I think that's really important," said Susan Thom, Girard City Council Member.
"I mean you see it every time you drive around the square. My hair shops right there, so I see it every time I go get my hair cut," said Kenzie Heatherly, Girard Resident.
"When we were little, we always use to go there and use to play around there. And you drive by everyday and you see it," said Taylor Evans, Girard Resident.
The Huey Helicopter is from the Vietnam War and has been located on the Girard square since 1995.
