JOPLIN, MO.--- The Economic Security Corporation and APAC Customer Services were both honored by Missouri's breastfeeding coordinator. That means they provide time, space and support for working moms who choose to nurse. Topping the list is the City of Joplin, which earned the gold level award. Workers say there are designated sites for workers at both city hall and the health department along with a mobile unit.
"A portable unit so that if we have a mom who is working in some other outlying area of the city, we can set them up a portable unit if they need to, for them to be able to nurse," said Joyce Doty, Joplin WIC Coordinator.
Workers point out that federal regulations require that employers provide nursing moms the time and space to pump or breastfeed as needed.
