The Rockin K Steak and Rib Restaurant Antique Auction

An historical site in Mulberry gears up for an antique auction.
MULBERRY, KS.--- An historical site in Mulberry gears up for an antique auction. The auction is giving locals the opportunity to have a piece of history. The building was originally an old school until it was bought out in the 1960's.

"We had several businesses in here. We started out being school house disco, then after a couple of years it was Rockin K Salon. And then in the 90's we opened a restaurant," said Steve Kuplen, Owner.

Steve Kuplen is one of the owners of "The Rockin K Steak and Rib" restaurant. He tells us they're closing their doors after almost 20 years of service.

"It was kind of hard to shut down, but the cost and everything got so high that a lot of the small mom and pops stuff are all shutting down, and we were one of them," said Kuplen.

He says during that time they've collected thousands of antiques and collectibles from around the world.

"We've got from railroad stuff to just farm, coal mining, we got the original Gilli's mechanical bull that's going to sell in here," said Kuplen.

That list goes on, Kuplen says it'll be hard to let go of the antiques, but it's time to move forward. So everything in the old building is up for grabs.

"It's kind of hard, too. A lot of this is my moms stuff, but we've got to get rid of it," said Kuplen.

He says his mother is in her 80's now and she started collecting antiques when she was just 16 years old.

"We've got buggies, we've got an old sleigh that's been in a lot of movies that my mom bought from a movie set, it's actually a real sleigh," said Kuplen.

This isn't the end for the historical site. The Kuplen's plan to rent out the space for wedding receptions and other parties.

"We've actually got it rented out for a party on May 2nd, so we're going to start real quick," said Kuplen.

He says after years of support from residents in the Four States, this auction is a way to share a piece of history from the old building.

"If these walls could talk, they could tell you some stories," said Kuplen.

The auction will start at 10 a.m. on March 29th and March 30th. The next two auction days will be on April 5th and April 6th.
