Storm Shelter at Junge Stadium

The project is part of the district wide process to provide safe places for the community.
JOPLIN, MO--- Missouri Gas Energy is currently relocating the gas, water, and sewer lines that run where the future building will be. The project is part of the district wide process to provide safe places for the community. The safe room will be able to hold around 3,000 people in the event of bad weather, and will be open 24-7 all year long.

Joplin director of construction says the community safe room will also double as a field house for the stadium.

"Of course shower and a dressing room, a place for the referees to come, and a referees room, and there will also be largo room that will be used as a hospitality room for track meets.", says Mike Johnson, Joplin Schools.

75% of the cost is paid for by Joplin Schools. The storm shelter is scheduled to be finished next March.
