Southeast Kansas Tourism Meeting

Plans are in motion to help bring attention to a top Kansas industry.
PARSONS, KS---The executive committee for the Southeast Kansas Tourism Region met this morning in Parsons.  Members are putting together a new travel guide that represents around 15 counties.  It will showcase different attractions throughout southeast Kansas.

"It's a huge economic development tool that we have that is sometimes overlooked.  It helps our retail folks, it helps our restaurants, the hotels, the sales tax base alone," says comittee president Shelia Lampe.

Tourism is the third largest industry in the Sunflower State, providing over 150,000 jobs.  The most recent report shows there were 32 million visitors in 2011, generating over $8 billion.
