FORT SCOTT, KS---Though there is no regulation requiring burn permits, Southeast Kansas fire departments say it is important that land owners take precautions. First being, notify your local fire station to let them know where you will be burning. Second, notify your neighbors. Third, plan for the smoke and know what direction the wind is blowing and what and who is in that direction. Fourth, have enough people to help, each with enough tools and equipment and water to control the fire. And lastly, be prepared in the event the fire gets out of control, know who to call. 911 or your local dispatch.
