Show Me State Games Torch Run

Organizers say the torch run is a way to build awareness for the Show Me State Games held in Columbia later this year.
JOPLIN, MO.--- Area runners lace-up to participate in the Show Me State Games Torch Run. The torch made a stop in Joplin today. About 20 runners carried it from Spiva Park in downtown Joplin, along Main Street, then to Cunningham Park. Organizers say the torch run is a way to build awareness for the Show Me State Games held in Columbia later this year. The games are an Olympic-style sports festival that offers more than 40 events in both individual and team competitions for all ages.

"It was originally started to help build awareness for a healthy lifestyle, physical fitness, fun, safe competition, and that's still the focus today almost 30 years later," said Ann Hargis, Shelter Insurance Companies.

Mayor Melodee Colbert-Kean proclaimed April 9th, 2014 as Show Me State Game Days in Joplin.
