Schifferdecker Avenue Construction Progress

Construction on a busy Joplin road has many residents asking when it will be done.
JOPLIN, MO --- Construction on a busy Joplin road has many residents asking when it will be done. The Schifferdecker Avenue project has been in the works since the end of summer last year. If you drive down the busy road often, you might wonder why it seems like the city is making little progress. Officials say there have been some delays due to poor soil in the area and an unseasonably wet August. Now, Winter weather is to blame for putting the project on hold.

"Winter weather plays a major factor in construction. For concrete to be poured, there needs to be weather above freezing, generally 35 degrees and rising, and it needs to stay at an elevated temperature," said Dave Hunt, Joplin Transportation Engineer.

City officials say they expect the project to be finished by early Summer.
