PSU Student Rebuilds a Car in Memory of His Best Friend

Nick Chase lost his life on September 14th in an automobile accident. To honor his friend, John Sear took it upon himself to finish repairing the car.
PITTSBURG, KS.--- One Pittsburg State University student's work on a car is more than just making it look good to drive.

"To be able to see a car come in and need some work, and then after the work is done and be able to look at it and see what looks like a new car, it's a really rewarding feeling," said John Sear, PSU Student.

Sears favorite project right now, a 1999 Pontiac Silver Grand Prix, a car owned by his best friend, Nick Chase.

"This project isn't about working on a car. I could go work on any car and not care. I'm not working on a car, I'm helping my best friend," said Sear.

Chase lost his life on September 14th in an automobile accident. To honor his friend, Sear took it upon himself to finish repairing the car.

"It just sat there. That was one thing that was a real easy decide was, 'hey, I'm pretty good at this. It would be a good way to give back," said Sear.

While working on the car, Sear came up with a motto for his friend "Keep Calm and Remember Nick Chase."

"There is a lot of people who do the 'in memory of' and that's great, but we wanted something different. He would of liked to have something different, and this is a good reminder of him and his individualism," said Sear.

Sear says it will be hard when the car is gone, but the memory of Chase will always be around.

"He would want his impact on all his friends and family to be positive and to really have his legacy benefit everyone he knew, and it really has. I'm thankful everyday that I knew him," said Sear

Nick Chase's family setup a scholarship in his name at PSU called the Nick Chase Memorial Scholarship Fund. The fund will reward an automotive technology student $500 a semester. Sear says he plans on selling the car when it is finished and all proceeds will go into the scholarship fund.
