JOPLIN, MO.--- Local authorities say now is the time to start planning for the upcoming storm season. The Jasper County emergency preparedness director suggests making sure you know where to shelter, not only at home, but also at other sites you frequently visit. He points out that the warnings rarely give more than 10 minutes, emphasizing the importance of staying put.
"Now by sheltering in place, I mean sheltering where you are, be that a home or a business, or a place of worship or the place that you're shopping," said Keith Stammer, Jasper County Emergency Manager.
Keith Stammer says there are guidelines for choosing a shelter. Inside beats outside, below ground beats above ground. Lower level beats upper level and in all cases, choose an interior room.
