PITTSBURG, KS.--- The intersection of Broadway and Centennial is now in its last phase of construction. This last phase includes pouring asphalt in the final lane of the intersection. The project was planned to be finished by the Christmas shopping season and is now projected to be completed by the middle of August. Director of Public Works Bill Beasley says they are well ahead of schedule because crews worked hard, knew what they were doing, and haven't experienced any problems. The weather has been excellent as well, and even the worst weather won't hold them back.
"Right now their to the point that everything is in the dry. They've got the rock base down on the area that has yet to be paved. If there was severe rain in a flooding area where they would have to pump some water, it could slow them up a day or two," said Bill Beasley, Public Works Director.
He also says the widening of Homer Street on the PSU campus is about three quarters complete and is expected to be completed by mid-August as well.
