Pittsburg Man Arrested on Federal Firearm Charge

James Russian unlawfully possessed a 9mm handgun and ammunition.
WICHITA, KS.--- James D. Russian, 56, of Pittsburg, was arrested Tuesday on federal firearm charges. Russian is charged in Wichita with one count of unlawful possession of a firearm after a felony conviction, and one count of unlawful possession of ammunition after a felony conviction. The crimes are alleged to have occurred Nov. 27th, in Crawford County.

Back in early December of last year, Russian was taken into custody after leading Crawford and Barton County deputies on a chase down US 160 HWY. Inventory of the suspect's vehicle and home led to the discovery of drugs, drug paraphernalia, a handgun and $23,000 in cash.

The indictment alleges Russian unlawfully possessed a 9mm handgun, 82 rounds of 9mm ammunition and eighteen 20 gauge shotgun cartridges.

If convicted he faces a maximum penalty of 10 years in federal prison and a fine up to $250,000 on the charge involving the handgun and a maximum penalty of five years and a fine up to $250,000 on the charge with the ammunition.
