CARTHAGE, MO.--- The Carthage Humane Society is getting national exposure in a web series launched by PetSmart Charities. The videos follow shelter animals as they travel hundreds of miles to an area where adoptable animals are more in demand. The web series begins at the Carthage Humane Society.
A piece of Carthage is spotlighted in the PetSmart Charities web series "Rescue Waggin Tales From the Road"
"They filmed a transport, 25 dogs on transport. They filmed each dog. We had to tell a story about the dog," said Glenda Erwin, Executive Director of Carthage Humane Society.
PetSmart Charities partnered with celebrity, Josh Duhamel, and his production company to create the eight episode web series. The series follows dogs from seven shelters across the country, as they travel to a shelter in Minneapolis in the Rescue Waggin' vehicle.
"It also rescues a larger number of dogs and gets them up north where there's a more of a demand for them," said Rob Buchanan, Kennel Tech.
The exeuctive director of the humane society says the series impacted more than 60 of their animals in the kennel itself.
"They showcased our animals. They showcased our shelter. It was just fun being part of it," said Erwin.
Carthage is one of 60 shelters in the country that participates in the Rescue Waggin' Transport System.
"We had to meet some really high standards to be a part of their program. I'm glad we did, because it gets our dogs out of here," said Buchanan.
The humane society transports 60 to 70 dogs per month on the Rescue Waggin' program. The executive director hopes people who watch the video understand how hard their volunteers work.
"Carthage is a really good shelter and people need to pay attention to their local shelters to help them bring up standards so they can do the same thing," said Erwin.
Episodes featuring the Carthage Humane Society are online now. Another episode, yet to be released, will show when the animals finally reach their destination. For more information, click here.
