Pet Allergies

Local veterinarians say pets can suffer from allergies just as much as humans can around this time of year.
JOPLIN, MO.--- Local veterinarians say pets can suffer from allergies just as much as humans can around this time of year. During the spring, they can inhale allergens in the air which can cause moderate to severe skin irritations in animals. In addition to seasonal allergies, vets also say flea allergies are more common in the spring as well.

"The time to see a vet is if your pet is itching enough to keep them up at night or they are constantly scratching during the day, or they are loosing hair they are itching so bad," said Dr. Ben Leavens, DVM Main Street Pet Care.

Dr. Leavens says allergies are a very common problem in domestic pets. They make up for between 20% to 30% of the animals they see at Main Street Pet Care.
