NEOSHO, MO.--- The Newton County collector says about 300 items are on his list of sites with delinquent taxes. Jim Otey says when the property is at least two years behind, they go to sale to the highest bidder. While the tax sale won't happen until next month, potential bidders will get a look at the list of properties in about a week.
"We get a lot of acreage, a lot of wooded timbers, a lot of vacant city lots. I would say that the large percentage of properties that we deal with in Newton County are that way," said Jim Otey, Newton County Collector.
The annual property tax sale will be held at the Newton County Courthouse starting at 10 a.m. on August 25th.
