Nevada Purchases Historic Church Building

The City of Nevada buys a historic building in order to keep the community safe.
NEVADA, MO.--- The city has bought the old Baptist church about a block off the square. The structure was declared a dangerous building back in 2009 after the previous owner neglected to take care of it. Now that the city owns it, there will be a discussion about enforcing the demolition order, however the future of the site is unknown.

"We also know that it's been a refuge for criminals fleeing the police and it's just really been a problem for the city from the perspective. As well as the outside of it has deteriorated to the point that, for the neighbors and the businesses in that area, that just really got this modulistic structure that's falling apart right in their backyard," said JD Kehrman, Nevada City Manager.

The city purchased the old Baptist church for $2,000 from the county at a back tax sale.
