NEVADA, MO.--- The three-day course is for area law enforcement and police officers still in Missouri Southern's academy. Holding the training at the Nevada Community Center provides easier access for officers not in cities like Joplin or Springfield. The course reviews the procedures for the standardized field sobriety test. That includes watching out for a combination of drunk driving errors.
"Like cutting corners too tight, stopping too soon before a stop sign or not stopping at all. A combination of all those help indicators of impaired driving," said Sgt. Jimmie Dye, Nevada Police Department.
He adds it's also a reminder for active officers to be on the lookout for suspicious drivers, make contact with them and get potential drunk drivers off the road.
