Nevada 3M Facility Expansion

Governor Jay Nixon announces a multi-million dollar manufacturing expansion in Nevada.
NEVADA, MO.--- Governor Jay Nixon announces a multi-million dollar manufacturing expansion in Nevada. The company 3M recently invested $18.7 million to expand its technology facilities. The governor was present to honor the global manufacturer for their growing investments.

"Hundreds and hundreds of people already work here, they're very active in their community and supportive of this local community. So what you do is try to go to organizations in your state that already have a foot print and help them deepen that foot print," said Governor Jay Nixon, Missouri.

The company 3M will add 22 new jobs in its graphics film industry, which will bring the 3M workforce in Missouri to more than 1,200 employees.

"Most of the positions that we will bringing in essentially will be hourly operator positions there will likely at some point come some additional engineering and additional crafts people," said Todd Cantrell, Nevada 3M Plant Manager.

The advanced technology will be a combination of new and existing products that are guaranteed to be state of the art.

"It's an adhesive coded graphic film that we're essentially selling. So it's a brand new technology in terms of how we go about coding, and it will allow us a higher level of productivity," said Cantrell.

Nevada's 3M plant has already invested in its technology, so the expansion will be good for business.

"The technology fits very well within the plant, and it will allow us to be able to support the U.S., which is where the growth is essentially taking place right now," said Cantrell.

Governor Nixon says it's businesses like 3M that spur economic development in every corner of the state. He tells us it also supports his "strategic initiative for economic growth" as a top target for next generation jobs.

"It sends a clear signal that the economy is moving forward, that the plan we're on which focuses on fiscal discipline, but also focuses on making sure that we've got an education system that can deliver. It is the right economic plan for the Show Me State," said Governor Nixon.

3M's Nevada facility specializes in manufacturing commercial graphics and signage for buildings and semi-trucks. It's the largest 3M location in Missouri and currently employs 639 workers.
